UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020: Union Public Service Commission has released the UPSC Notification 2020 for Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2020. The UPSC CSE 2020 online application link is active now and eligible candidate can apply Online @upsc.gov.in. The Online application for UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020 will be filled till 03.03.2020. A Common Preliminary Examination will be conducted for the recruitment of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Officers (IFO).

The Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to examination

What is UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2020

UPSC Civil Services Preliminary examination is the first level of the exam, which will act as a screening mechanism for selection of candidates for:

  1. Civil Services (Main) Examination 2020 for Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the Indian Police Service
  2. Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2020

Candidates who wish to Apply for both Examination ie, Indian Forest Service Examination and the Civil Services Examination, have to apply once through single online application portal by appropriately indicating in the on-line application form that they intend to appear for both the Indian Forest Service Examination and the Civil Services Examination.

UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020: Eligibility Criteria

Education Qualification for Civil Services Exam 2020

The candidate must hold a degree from government recognized university/College, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Education Qualification for Indian Forest Exam 2020

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering from recognized university or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age Limit

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August, 2020, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1988 and not later than 1st August, 1999.

  1. up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe; 2. up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to OBC
  2. up to a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof;
  3. up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs
  4. 10 years of relaxation for PWD Candidates
NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS :
  1. Every candidate appearing at the Examination, who is eligible, shall be permitted six attempts at the examination.
  2. There is no restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.
  3. Provided further that the number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are otherwise eligible, is nine.

Applicant can deposit the Application Fees either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit card.

UPSC Civil Services Examination: How to Apply

  1. Visit http://upsconline.nic.in/mainmenu2.php
  2. Click on the link “First Part Registration” Link.
  3. Complete the First part of Registration. Fill all the information such as Name, Address, Educational Qualification, Age, DOB, Phone number, etc.
  4. In the second part of registration, you will have to make the online payment of application fees by any online payment mode or cash.
  5. Upload a scanned copy of your signature and photograph.
  6. Select the exam centre
  7. Finally, agree to the declaration and submit the form
  8. Take out a hard copy of your application form for future reference.

UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020: Selection Procedure

The CSE 2020 Selection will be done in Three stages:

Stage-I: Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and
Stage-II: Main Examination- Applicants who get qualify in Stage-I will be eligible to appear in Civil Services (Main/Stage-II) or Indian Forest Examination ) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts.
Stage-III: Personality Test.

Stage I Preliminary Exam Pattern
  1. The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each.
  2. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).
  3. For a wrong answer given by the candidate, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for Civil Services (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination

Stage II Main Examination

The Main Examination will consist of written examination and an interview test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the various subjects out of which two papers will be of qualifying in nature.
