UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2020: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification of Engineering Services Examination 2020 to recruit engineers who work for the government of India and would be appointed as Class – 1 officer. Approximately 495 Vacancies has been notified for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering categories.

UPSC Engineering Services Examination

UPSC ESE is a 3 stage exam consisting of Preliminary Exam, Main Stage & Personality test followed by medical examination. Applicants should have respective bachelor’s degree in Engineering as per the post requirement. Please go through the official notification before applying.

UPSC Engineering Services Examination: Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification
  1. Degree In Engineering from a recognized University OR
  2. Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution  of  Engineer(India) OR
  3. Candidates with a degree in Engineering from a foreign institution/university recognized by Government of India. OR
  4. Candidates who have passed Associate Membership Examination’s Parts II and III or Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India. OR
  5. Qualified the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).
Age Limit as on 01.01.2020

An applicant for this exam must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st January 2020, i.e., he/she must have been born between 2nd January 1990 and 1st January 1999.

Age relaxation is there for SC/ST/OBC and others candidates as per the government rules.

Applicant can deposit the Application fee in any Branch of SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using any Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card.

UPSC Engineering Services Examination: How to Apply

  1. Visit http://upsconline.nic.in/mainmenu2.php
  2. Click on the link “First Part Registration” Link.
  3. Complete the First part of Registration. Fill all the information such as Name, Address, Educational Qualification, Age, DOB, Phone number, etc.
  4. In the second part of registration, you will have to make the online payment of application fees by any online payment mode or cash.
  5. Upload a scanned copy of your signature and photograph.
  6. Select the exam centre
  7. Finally, agree to the declaration and submit the form
  8. Take out a hard copy of your application form for future reference.

UPSC Engineering Services Examination: Selection Procedure

The ESE 2020 Selection will be done in Three stages:

Stage-I: Preliminary Examination– Objective Type Papers for the selection of applicants for the Stage-II Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination.
Stage-II: Main Examination– Applicants who get qualify in Stage-I will be eligible to appear in Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination which is Conventional Type Papers.
Stage-III: Personality Test.

Stage I Exam Pattern

The Engineering Services (Preliminary/ Stage-I) Examination will consist of two objective type (multiple choices) questions papers and carrying a maximum of 500 marks (Paper 1 – 200 Marks & Paper II – 300 Marks).

There will be negative marking. One-Third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be subtracted as the penalty for every wrong answer.

Stage II Exam Pattern

UPSC ESE Main Examination will consist two conventional type papers specific to Engineering Discipline with duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600 (Each paper of 300 Marks).

Stage III Personality Test: (Carry 200 marks) Candidates who qualify Stage-I and Stage-II exam appear for Stage-III (Personality Test). The number of applicants appearing for Personality Test will be about twice the number of openings to be filled.
