HR interview is mainly the last stage of any interview process to get selected into the job. It could either be the one to one type of interview or panel interview. 1. Tell us about yourself?
This is the most common and probably the first question for any HR interview. This question sets the pace and tone of the entire interview so, prepare in advance.
- Start with a short introduction of yourself and from where you are.
- Describe your education details and skills.
- Include your hobbies, achievement, and ambition.
- Don’t just narrate your resume.
Example: Hello, I am SHUBHAM , I have completed BE in computer science from XYZ college with 83 percent marks. And I have done my schoolings from abc school with86% marks in 12tg.I have 5 members in my family and I am the oldest one. I love playing cricket and football.
2. Why should we hire you?
They are actually asking you, “What makes you the best fit for this position?”.
- Make a list of all your strength relevant to the posted job. Like strong communication skill, good in coding, friendly in nature, multitasking etc.
- match your education to the required job.
Example- I am open to new challenges and I have the capability to understand and resolve through a proactive approach. I can work under pressure without even a minor deviation from the end result. I am a team player and I have good co-ordination skills and I have the zeal to achieve my ultimate goal of success.
3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
This is one of the popular questions of HR interview. While answering this question always keep the job description in mind. Whichever strengths or weakness you pick, ensure that you can also evidence them with examples.
Strengths:-
- Try to explain your strength with experience from the past.
- Some example of strengths you might include is Patience, hard-working, Honest, Strong communication, Trustworthiness, Dedication etc.
Weaknesses:
- Never say that you have no weaknesses, or you’re a perfectionist. It may portray you as arrogant or dishonest.
- Always try to pick qualities that you’ve taken steps to overcome.
Example: Previously I had stage fear issue because of my shy nature but I overcome this weakness by taking part into various speech and debate competition held at the school and now I don’t have such an issue and I socialize well with peoples.
4. What are your hobbies and interests?
Be a smart teller instead of a truth teller. For example, if you tell reading is my hobby, and you are not aware of any popular author then this can turn into a disaster. So, prepare well and try to collect as much information about your hobby, this will give you confidence while answering any unexpected queries.
5. Are you willing to relocate?
If you are a fresher and you have no family constraint then the answer should be ‘yes’.
You may answer like I would be happily relocated for the opportunity to work with such a prestigious organization.
6. What is your long term and short term goal?
This is also a very common HR round interview question. This question let them decide whether the candidate would stay in the company and would be a good hire.
Example – I am a fresher and my short term goal is to work for a company where I can use all my skills for the betterment of the company and can also improve myself.
My long-term goal is to become an expert in my field and Lead a technical team or an organization in future OR
My long term goal is to get established in a renowned MNC where I will get an opportunity to implement my ideas and skills which I would achieve in a span of years.
7. What has been your greatest achievement?
Think about a time when you’ve received an award, organized an event, learned something new or overcome a major fear. Always prepare several examples.
Example- When I was in school I got an opportunity to get involved in a program that was organized by UNESCO, we were exposed to rural areas and we were trying to bring awareness among people about polio. That was 3 days workshop which became a headline in a couple of local newspaper
8. Question from Company background.
Always do research about the company before going to attend an interview as you might get 1-2 questions from it. Try to gather information like what are their major industries, who is MD and CEO of the organization, about their Products and major projects etc.
9. Are you ready to work in shifts?
The interviewer asks this question to test your flexibility and ownership towards work. Ideally, the answer should be YES if you don’t have any major concerns.
Example– If the requirement of position is to work in shifts then I can work in any shift as required I don’t have any issue.
Absolutely. I am single and I don’t mind working hours that take me out of the nine to five routine.
10. Do you have any questions for us?
This probably could be the last question. Keep in mind that anything you ask should cover the work or career development. Prepare questions in advance;
- What is a typical career path in this job?
- Do you have an internal training program which I can opt for while working on my assignments?
- Do you provide cross-domain training for new technologies?
